Van Morrison

What’s wrong with this picture ?

It’s just having on the wall

So you can go right back to sleep

And just forget about it all, because

I’m not hat person anymore

I’m living in the present time

Baby don’t you understand

I’ve left all that jive behind

It took me six months to read this book, the selected lyrics by Van Morrison himself. Well reading is reading it word by word, listening to the music and picturing that film that each of his songs is.

Does he even have a first name, Van Morrison ? Have never been to any of his concerts, or a gig as my Irish friends would say, but that is definitely top ten on my bucket list.

Bob Dylan was heavily contested when he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016, but I disagree. Songs are lyrics, lyrics are words and words can be poetry. I loved this book and will now have to compare the lyrics of Dylan with those of Van Morrison and decide for myself if Van Morrison should get the prize too.

These are the days of the endless summer

These are the days, the time is now

There is no past, there’s only future

There’s only here, there’s only now

– from These are the Days
